The
Car Dealer Prep Scam
Years ago when you bought a new car
there was a "Dealer Prep" or Preparation Fee. It was just
a given at the time. It would cost anywhere from
$100.00 on up to $800.00.
Most manufacturers today include Dealer Prep in
the price of the vehicle and it is stated on the Window
Sticker. The manufacturer pays the Dealer to "Prep" the new
vehicle. It usually involves removing protective plastic sheets
from the hood, trunk and roof. Then a technician will install
fuses and perform an overall inspection on the vehicle, which
includes a quick road test, know as Dealer Prep.
However there are car dealers out there that are charging
a Dealer Prep Fee to their customers.(scam) When the customer
questions the car dealer, they will say that all new cars go
through their Service Department and do a variety of tasks to
get the vehicle ready for you.
You should not have to pay a Dealer Prep
scam charge.

It has even been reported that there are
dealers charging a Dealer Prep Fee on Used Cars. Just imagine
the amount of people that pay this scam charge and say nothing
because they are told it is normal. This is just another way of
padding the bill and thus the Dealer Prep scam.
Not all dealers will not try to pull this scam on their
customers, but if they do tell them you are not paying a Dealer
Prep Fee, that is a scam. They will usually remove the Dealer
Prep charge.
Take a close look at the
Monroney/Window Sticker.
Most manufacturers state that the Dealer Prep is included in
the price. This is an easy scam to pull on a customer because
most people
do noy buy a car that often. Closely read the window sticker on
the New
Car you are going to
purchase.
I copied this statement below from a
Chevrolet Window Sticker exactly as it is worded
below.
"***Includes Manufacturer's
Recommended Pre-Delivery Service. Does not
include dealer installed options and accessories, local taxes
or license fees."
