Slang:
$500.00 Sandwich: a sales person went to
lunch and missed a sale
Ad Car: An advertised special car that is a
stripped down model for price appeal
Bagel: Cheap or junky car or truck
Back End: The amount of profit from add on
warranties, insurance and interest
Be Back: A customer that says they will
be back but rarely do
Bird Dog: An amount of money paid to a person
that brings in a buyer
BK: Customer in bankruptcy or had a recent
filing
Box: Finance
Office or where final paperwork is done
Broom Them: get rid of customer, blow them
off....or Sweep Them
Buy Rate: The minimum interest rate that the
dealer has to charge customer based on the buyers credit
rating
Box Close: Some dealers actually Close or
agree on final numbers in the Box
Bump: Raise them on price or payment any amount
Cherry Picking: a sales person that only takes
customers that look or act like buyers
Cream Puff: A used car in Excellent
condition
Dime: $1000.00
Finn or Nickel: $500.00
Front End: The amount of gross profit between
selling price and the cost of vehicle
Grind: negotiations that take longer than
normal
Holdback: see Dealer
Holdback Hoopdy: Cheap or junky car or
truck
Hosed Them: Made very good money on the
deal
Hot Buttons: Items that are important to the
buyer
Lowball: a dealer tries to undercut the price
from another dealer
Meet and Greet: The initial meeting and
introduction
Mini: when a car is sold at a very low profit
and the sales person's commission is a minimum, such as $50.00,
$75.00 or $100.00.
Nerd: A customer that comes in with their
folder full of research
Nut: Breakeven point
Pack: The amount of money that the dealer
tacks on the cost of the car that reduces the amount of
commission paid to sales person. (see Sales pay Plans)
Player: a customer with good credit
Pound: $1000.00 profit, as in "I got a 5
pounder"
Pre-Qualify: determining if a customer is a
buyer by looking, talking or experince
Put Them On The Ceiling: Give them a
very low amount on Trade-in or very High amount on payment
to get them to throw their logic out the window.
Repo: a reposesion
Scrape Them Off The Ceiling: Then bring them
back down to number in between overall high number and actual
number.
Skate: A sales person taking a customer that
asked for someone else
Spiff: an extra bonus paid to sales person for
selling car by dealer or manufacturer
Stold It: Trading in a vehicle for way under
actual value
Take a Bath: Loosing money on a sale
The Close: Come to an agreement on the final
figures
Tire Kicker: A person looking with no
intention of buying
Tower: The Sales Managers office or desk
area
Upside Down: Customer owes more on their
Trade-In than it is worth
