Reasearch That
Used Car or Truck
When it comes to buying used
cars or trucks, it is time to do your
homework before you spend your hard
earned money.
One you have found a vehicle you think
you may want to purchase:
Check
your Vehicle History Report: You can
ask your Private Party Seller for the
VIN# of the vehicle you are interested in
over the phone or email. If a seller is hesitant to give
you the VIN you should think twice about this seller. I
hope you have been to Vehicle History Report
Section and get familiar with the power of
a report when lookin at Used Cars or Trucks. Get a report
at AutoCheck® .
Is The
Car Priced Properly: Is the asking
price for the car fair and reasonable for the Year, Make,
Model and Mileage? Go to Yahoo! Autos and do some pricing research on the
vehicle you are considering. The pricing that you get
from Yahoo! Autos
will have 3 categories Trade-in, Private
Party, and Retail. Used Car prices are very subjective
becuase it really depends on so many things, such as what
the dealer paid and the condition. See Used Car Prep.
Cost of
Ownership: What are the true costs
of car ownership. Comapre your choices with
the Car Cost Comparison
Calculator.
Inspecting
The Car: Take a walk around the Car,
look it over using the Used Car
Buying Inspection Checklist. You download
it here in a PDF file and print it. It
covers everthing from checking the fluids, body, tires
and more.
Test
Driving The Car: We have also
included check points and items to check when you are
test driving in the Used Car Checklist above. Put
the car through the test, drive it fast, slow, hard and
easy. Sometimes this is the only certain things may come
to light. Do not be timid during your test drive. You are
about to buy this car, make sure it is what you
expect.
Service
Records: Does the seller or the
dealer have service records. Any service records can give
you pretty good idea of how the vehicle was taken care
of. Can you talk to the previous owner? If a dealer is
selling the car, the old owner would tell you everything
about their old car. A Private Party seller may not be too open about the
vehicle.
Ok, you have made your decision. If you
are financing make sure you follow the information in
the Financing Section.
