Beware of These Top 10 Favorites

  1. You call and talk to the dealer to get a price for a vehicle. They give you a great price. You make the trip to the Dealer only to find out that the vehicle already has Rustproof, Undercoating, Paint and Fabric Protection. So that would be an extra $ 899.00. See Add-Ons
  2. You call the dealer to check and see if they have a particular vehicle in stock. They say Yes we do. You get there only to find the vehicle was sold. (the idea is to get you there, once there if handled properly they stand a good chance selling you a car)
  3. Similar to #1. Except they say that the price they gave you did not include destination or dealer prep fee. (that will be an extra $XXX)
  4. You have negotiated a deal, payments and all, then they ask how are you going to pay the tax and license. If you want those rolled into the deal it will be an extra $XX a month. Unless you would like to pay those up front.
  5. You need to purchase the extended warranty in order to qualify for the financing. Not True, only your credit determines if you qualify for a loan
  6. If you don’t purchase the warranty at the time of original paperwork, it will cost you nearly twice as much. Not True. See Car Warranties
  7. You can only buy the warranty from the dealer. Not true, there are many warranties available.
  8. Window V.I.N.# etching gets tacked on to your paperwork at anywhere from $149.00 up to $299. They say that the lenders require that be done to keep the vehicle safe from theft.
  9. You need to buy Credit Life Insurance to qualify for the loan. The lender requires it, just in case something happens to you. Not True. No lender requires credit life insurance.
  10. Getting Remote Start, Alarm Systems or similar add-ons from anywhere but the dealer will void your warranty on the electrical system. Not True

Disclaimer Here: These are just some of the smaller things that I have seen or heard at assorted dealers. (See Dealer Scams for more)  Remember these are not the practices of all dealers. Remember the old saying, a few bad apples….. something…. something….. you get the idea.
